The Trumps are heading back to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Donald Trump has been elected the 47th president of the United States, with him and his running mate JD Vance being declared the winners of the 2024 election over current Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz, NBC News projected Nov. 6.
While Inauguration Day doesn’t take place until January, Trump and his wife Melania Trump won’t be the only ones making headlines that day. Whichever designer dresses the first lady will be in the news as well.
When Trump, who served as the 45th president, was sworn in at the 2017 ceremony, Melania wore a light blue dress and jacket from Ralph Lauren Collection. In fact, her outfit reminded many of the coat former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy wore to her husband John F. Kennedy’s presidential inauguration in 1961. For the inaugural ball later that evening, Melania changed into an off-the-shoulder silk crepe gown in shade vanilla with ruffle detailing and red ribbon belt by Hervé Pierre.
Following the balls, the gowns are featured in the First Ladies Collection at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, which currently includes 27 dresses and more than 160 objects that date back to the first First Lady Martha Washington.
Of course, the president-elect and his wife aren’t the only ones in the Trump family whose fashion has made headlines. His daughters Ivanka Trump and Tiffany Trump plus his extended family members have all caught the public's attention.

President-elect Donald Trump gathered on stage with his family—including his wife Melania Trump and his five children Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump, Eric Trump, Tiffany Trump and Barron Trump—as well as with Vice President-elect JD Vance and wife Usha Vance on election night in November 2024.
They won the election against current Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
The incoming first lady chose a red Christian Dior suit for the Milwaukee-based event.
Ivanka (mom is the late Ivana Trump) wore a dress by Monique Lhuillier featuring a black top and silver sequined skirt to the grand opening of the Fontainebleau Las Vegas in December 2023.
About a month after he announced his 2024 presidential run, Trump attended a New Year's Eve event at his Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach. He wore a black tux to the December 2022 gathering while his wife Melania wore a silver Dolce & Gabbana dress.
The couple attended Game Four of the World Series between the Houston Astros and Atlanta Braves in October 2021. Melania wore a trench coat for the outing while Trump sported a black suit and red tie.
Trump's youngest daughter Tiffany Trump—who he shares with second ex-wife Marla Maples—wore a light blue suit to the 2020 Republican National Convention, which was held virtually that year amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The Apprentice alum and the former model arrived at Clarence House in London to meet King Charles III and Queen Camilla in 2019. For the occasion, Melania wore a yellow cape ensemble by Valentino while Trump donned a black suit and blue tie.
Melania received criticism for wearing a Zara jacket with the words "I really don't care, do you?" written on the back while visiting migrant children in Texas in June 2018.
"It was for the people and for the left-wing media who are criticizing me, and I want to show them that I don't care," she told ABC News that October. "You could criticize whatever you want to say, but it will not stop me to do what I feel is right."
Tiffany, in a double-breasted pink coat with gold heels, and Ivanka, in a plaid-patterned coat with brown riding boots, walked across the South Lawn of the White House in November 2018.
Melania wore a light blue dress and jacket by Ralph Lauren Collection to Trump's inauguration ceremony in 2017, finishing the look with a pair of gloves and coordinating heels.
For the Inaugural Ball later that evening, Melania wore an off-the-shoulder silk crepe gown by Hervé Pierre. The design was in shade vanilla and featured ruffle detailing down the front and a red ribbon around the waist. As for Trump, he wore a black tuxedo.
The Trumps attended a concert by La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra during the Heads of State and of Government G7 summit in Sicily in May 2017, where Melania wore a silver Dolce & Gabbana dress.
Ivanka's most recent Met Gala appearance was in 2016, when she attended with husband Jared Kushner and wore a red Ralph Lauren Collection jumpsuit for the theme Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology.
Up to that point, she had attended the Costume Institute's ball every year since 2004 aside from the 2011 gala.
Trump stopped by Today in 2016 along with Melania, Ivanka, Tiffany, Don Jr. and Eric. His grandkids Kai Trump and Tristan Trump, two of the five kids his eldest son shares with ex Vanessa Trump, also joined for the visit.
Trump celebrated The Celebrity Apprentice finale at Trump Tower in New York in 2015 with Don Jr., Ivanka, Tiffany, Eric, Eric's wife Lara Trump, Melania and Barron.
Trump and Melania's last appearance at the Met Gala was in 2012, when she wore a white, long-sleeved dress for the theme Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations.
Tiffany struck a pose at The Project Runway show during New York Fashion Week in 2013.
Ivanka walked down the aisle in a Vera Wang gown for her wedding to Jared in October 2009. The couple would later welcome kids Arabella, Joseph and Theodore.
